The first time I traveled to California, it felt like I had gone to another planet.  After all, I was coming from the exact opposite end of the country, Massachusetts.  Not only was it warm and sunny, something unheard of in November back home, but everything else seemed different, too.  The general pace was more relaxed than what I was used to.  I guess the stereotype of the bustling Northeast, with its fast talking, fast driving, type-A residents was more fact than fiction. Everything from the trees, to the food to the highways, and the beaches, California was a wonderful world apart.

We recently had our kitchen remodeled.   We now have granite counter tops,  custom built counters and all new appliances.   Over the stove I have a powerful light that I can turn on to use to see what i am cooking.  There are also ceiling extractor fans to remove the cooking smoke and odors from the room.  I can run the fans on high or low but with either speed they let me know they are running by the noise that they make.  While I would rather have them run on a quite mode the sound is a very good reminder that I need to turn them off.

We are planning on replacing some of our windows and doors this year. They are old and drafty and really need to be replaced.
