Last week the staff at our local pizza franchise had a bad day. Being the type of franchise that promises to deliver the pizza within a specific time otherwise the customer gets the pizza for free; there is a need for the delivery people to have access to vehicles to complete their delivery. Just after the start of business, as the Lawyer of Franchise waltzed in and instructed the manager to produce the inspection certificates for the delivery vehicles. If they could not be produced, the vehicles could not leave the premises. As luck would have it, the keys for filing cabinets could not be found so that the attorney was forced to “ground” the delivery fleet. The local taxi service had to be roped in to deliver the pizzas. Profits disappeared, tempers were short, and staff was frazzled.
