Some friends and I planned a trip to Colombia last year, and we knew that we’d be staying at least eight months. We weren’t sure what kinds of paperwork we would need, and we weren’t sure where to start. I started asking around at work, and I was told that I could consult a company who knew a great deal about the colombia embassy policies. I contacted them, and they assured me that they would assist me in getting my documentation together. It was wonderful to let them handle things, and we made it to our destination without incident. There are many different ways that we can help those who are less fortunate than we are.  My husband volunteers at the local shelter and I help to run a shelter for abused animals.  I am glad to know that our children are following in our footsteps.  My son called last night and was so excited because he helped to organize a food drive for those who need it in his area.  Our daughter was hired to teach english overseas.  Our youngest son participates in charity functions for many different organizations.  I feel that my children are wonderful kids and am very proud of them.

I am seriously thinking about taking one year of my college experience and using it to study outside the United States. I have friends who have really enjoyed going down to Colombia. Medellin has over 30 universities that really welcome foreigner students, and I think I could really improve on my Spanish down there. I want to immerse myself in the culture, although this is a  pretty socially-sophisticated part of the world. My Literature class is going to Peru this summer for a group trip. I’m excited about it. We already have a plan of where we’re going, what we’re going to do, and when. There’s so much downtime left over! I’m thrilled with that because there are so many things that aren’t on our list of to dos for the class. I want to go shopping and check out some of the historic places and most of all, I want to go to The Peruvian Amazon jungle. I have a few friends who are interested as well. I figure we can take a day and all go. I’m going to open the trip to the jungle to anyone in the class who might be interested.

I have always felt that hotels made me feel cramped because they seem so small and when you go on an extended trip or vacation, you crave a lot of space.  We stayed at a costa rica apartment hotel and it was exactly what I wanted.  The rooms were huge and it had a full kitchen and dining room.  I loved the apartment feel and it was so much better than staying at a cramped hotel.  We had the best time and we will definitely stay there again the next time we visit.  My husband has relatives there so I am hoping to go back very soon.
