He really has to impress Mr. Takimoto in order to close the Duggan multi-million sales deal. He made sure to listen to some Japanese language cd courses. He also purchased three books on Japanese language 3 months in advance. He was no expert but he had a major grasp on the Japanese language. His boss was impressed with his ambition and willingness to learn the language just to set a good impression with Mr. Takimoto. If the deal fell through, his boss would still consider giving James a raise.
